Scroll down for the daily reports

Day 1

Format: Single Stableford

Players from the USA, Australia, South Africa, and the Philippines converged at the Baybreeze Hotel Pattaya from Thursday to Friday in preparation for the start of golfing activities on Monday the 10th October 2022 our first chance to play in Thailand since Covid 19 closed the country down in 2020.

Nine players took the opportunity to go to Stonehill Golf Club in Bangkok to see the LIV golf tournament held there. All the guys that went had a great day watching how golf should be played. It was a long day leaving the hotel at 7 am and returning at just after 6 pm but well worth it was a general opinion.
Monday morning, we were off to Pattana Golf Club and departed the hotel on time at 07:00 with 14 players and were joined at to course by Randy Tusing who lives in Pattaya, and Bill Meader who is also a Pattaya local.

We played Single Stableford with one three-ball and three four-ball flights.
The winner with 39 points was Manoj Singh on Count/back from Ted Lojszcyk who took second place and Bill Meader took third place from Keith Doyle on count/back with 36 points.

St Andrews 2000 and Rayong Green Valley
More rain overnight but headed out with 14 Players with 10 wishing to test themselves on the difficult St Andrews Course including two Par 6’s
The other four played Rayong Green Valley.
There was no competition today as players were left to decide which Tee’s they played off and so no common state of play could be established.
All the guys enjoyed what was a fun/practice day
Still, no carts on the fairways so another long walk in the damp conditions.

Day 4

Event: At Crystal Bay Format: Single Stableford.
The weather was finally a bit better but unfortunately, the course was in the worst shape of any course we have played on the many tours.
The ground was wet underfoot and fairways had not been mowed for some considerable time and the grass was a foot high in places.
Plugged balls and lost balls on the fairway resulted in five of the thirteen players stopping play leaving two four balls left to contest today’s contest.

Winner (playing of back tees) Matthew Skinner 37 points
2nd Place Brad Armstrong 36 points
NTP C#7 Matthew Skinner
NTP A#7 Wal Creese

This was the first time we have played this course for a long time and will not be readily included in the itinerary for a while until maintenance is improved on and around the course,
Was too knackered to take photos of the prize winners

Day 5

Event: At Emerald – Australia V Internationals.
Format: Alternate Stroke Match Play.

A full contingent of 16 players again departed on time from Baybreeze Hotel in bright and sunny conditions. And on arrival at the course were greeted with the good news that carts were allowed on fairways and a dry track awaited for the teams to contest the “Presidents International Shield” kindly donated by Brad Armstrong for the first time.

Flight One Consisted of Keith Doyle and Tim Daly for Team Australia and Manoj Singh with Wall Creese representing The Internationals.

This was a tight game with both teams all square coming down Hole 18 with the Internationals sinking a put to win 1 up.

Flight Two saw Alan Shields and Ted Lojszzyk for Australia pitted against Bill Meaden and Keven Flatley representing Internationals. This game was also down to the wire with both sides all square coming down 18 only to see history repeat itself and International walk off 18 Green one up.

Flight Three consisted of Matthew Skinner and Steve Fisk carrying the flag for the internationals and Stephen Peters and Brad Armstrong (Australian Captain) representing Australia.
Although winning the toss to play off the back markers, the Aussies managed to win 6 up with 5 to play.

The fourth and final grouping was Randy Tusing and Evan Flatley (Captain for Internationals) and Alan Williams with Carey Wilston playing for the Australian team.
The Internationals took out Match 7 up with 6 to play

This meant the final result was Internationals with 6 points V Australia with 2 Points.

Day 10

Friday 21st October 2022 Stroke Count Putts at Khao Kheow.

Format: Stroke/count putts.

We were greeted by rain showers this morning and passed through some showers on the way to the course.
But a strong wind blew it away by the 2nd hole.
Has been a while since Khao Kheow has been included in our schedule and I wonder why now as the course has some very picturesque holes and was in great nick.

The winner with a personal best score of Gross 84 for nett 60 was Keven Flatley
Runner up was Brad Armstrong with nett 68 on C/b from Tim Daly.
The least putts were made by Steve Fisk with 31 putts (13 on the back 9)  from Kevan Flatley with 14 on the back nine.
NTP Hole A5 Carey Winston
NTP Hole B8 Stephen Peters.

We all met in the foyer of the Hotel at 17:50 to make a small presentation to P’how and her staff in appreciation for all her efforts in helping arrange rooms, golf bookings transport, etc.
We then proceeded to Hemingway’s bar across the road for our usual video slide show and a presentation to the Player of the tour, which was awarded to Matt Skinner.
To all who took part in the running of the events and assisted with money collection, and prize awarding my personal thanks.
A couple of disappointments were the weather in the first week, and the fact that I could not source an embroidery shop to manufacture shirts to accommodate a tour shirt (the first time since 2004) covid is still having effects on some businesses.

Put Monday, 9th October 2023 in your diary as that is the date we will be commencing the 2023 golf trip!!
