Marina Hills – 27th November 2018
Hi to all around the world and those home here in the Philippines,
Today 17 of us played the rescheduled October Monthly Medal. We have now cleared the backlog caused by the extended rainy season and ready for the final MM of the year next week. The greens were below average and the fairways OK, but the rough is still bad. The course however is slowly getting back to shape but there are still problems with “fairway rough” for which the committee have introduced a new temporary local rule, which is:
Fairway Rough – On many holes there are parts of the fairway that still have long grass which has not been cut back from pre rainy season standards and this also extends to some areas around the greens and bunkers. Until further notice these areas are classified as GUR (Ground Under Repair) and as such a “free drop” is allowed whether or not the ball is found. The “free drop” should be taken where playable at an equal distance to the green from where the ball was found or believed to be, it is not taken at the “Point of Entry”. There is however one caveat and that is your marker must be in agreement that it is in fairway rough and not general rough. In other words we are trying to play the course to the original fairway boundaries. For those players with guests in their flight that maybe are not familiar with this new local rule please help them out.
For those that did not read last week’s letter please note that current 2018 Club Championship standings are published on the tab of the same name. These standings exclude the Monthly Medal played of this newsletter as we want a cliff hanging finale to the season.

Hello to all our friends around the world,
Today 18 of us played the September Monthly Medal. The greens were good and the fairways OK and for this week we have a new adjective for the rough……Nasty! For what it is worth the tee boxes were in very good shape and nicely cut. The weather incidentally was very pleasant.
As well as the usual update on MH handicaps you will also find in the “Club Championship 2018” tab an update of the current championship standings, check it it out and see where you are.

Marina Hills – 13th November 2018
Mabuhay Philippines and Hello World,
Today we played the August Monthly Medal chipping away at the backlog of matches we need to play due to a protracted rainy season. We had 22 players on a golf course that is slowly getting back to normal which today found the greens fair but slow and the fairways ok but lumpy (more on that later) and still some uncut areas. As for the rough well words fail me….”tough”, “brutal, “impenetrable”, “outrageous” spring to mind but it is the same for all of us and hopefully it will get cut back a bit soon. The “lumpy” fairways made drives highly unpredictable with a good chance that a carefully placed drive down the middle of the fairway could hit a lump and ricochet 90 degrees into the rough…then goodbye ball! Anyway on to the results.

Marina Hills – 6th November 2018
This is a temporary Newsletter to test the recently fixed broken link and it is done from memory as I do not have the match report……this will be updated when full details available. TC
Last Tuesday Nov 6th saw us back at Marina Hills for the November Monthly Medal, the first in what will be a series of MMs as we still have to play the Aug, Sept & Oct events after which we will be up for the Dec MM and finally the Medal of Medals.
Marina Hills was basically playable providing one kept on the fairway…the rough was brutal. Please note that until further notice a ball on the fairway in an uncut area can be played as a free drop (even if not found) as the ground is classified as GUR. We are slowly getting there in having the course back to normal.
You will find a new tab on the website covering the new rules of golf that come into effect from January 2019….some very interesting rule changes to make life easier for us
Below are listed the winners (from memory) and you will find the current handicaps under the “Handicaps” tab. Sorry I do not know gross/nett scores or any other scores
Winners
A-Grade Dave Walter (with I believe a very impressive 78 off the stick)
B-Grade Joe Giovenco
Least Putts No idea!
NTPs No idea!
NAGA Mike Evarts
Pool Competition: The “Presentation Bar” was “Emotions” (changed at the last moment from “Gentlemans”), and in the pool Steve Turner defeated Ron Carter.
