NEWSLETTERS – MAY 2018

LAST MINUTE ADVISORY:

Presentation Bar for JUNE 5 has changed to OLD MATES (Robbie Burns is closed)

Marina Hills – 29th May

Mabuhay Philippines, Hello World.  Today we had a “3-Man Ambrose” event attended by 20 golfers. The greens were OK, some quite slow and the fairways were good but to the dismay of the high handicappers there is no roll now. As for the rough….well don’t bother…even if you can find your ball you most probably cannot play it! A mention must be made of a particular team who were out for nearly 5 hours due to their golf carts breaking down multiple times…still they didn’t give up and finished in a 3rd cart only to get the NAGA!

Note: No updated handicaps this week due to today’s event being a team game

New and returning golfers:   Lawrence Meek, Tom Grow and Kriss Ros

WINNERS

Steve Tye, Tom Grow, Phil Nelson & Wayne Muras          61.25

Note: As a 4-man team their handicap was suitably adjusted down from that of a 3-man team

Marina Hills – 22nd May

Hi to all around the world. Today we had a “Stableford” event played by 24 golfers who braved the heat. Most of the greens were slow but improving whilst the fairways were a mixture of OK where cut and slowish where not. The rough can only be described as tough and getting tougher! The course, for this time of the year, is actually remarkably green no doubt helped by a huge rainstorm on Monday evening.

Talking about the course, BSGC says “Welcome Back” to Kevin the Marina Hills cashier who has been sick for a while.

In a day of low point scoring a mention must go to Roger Simpson who was the clear winner today with his 41 points and 2 NTPs. Well done Roger!

Marina Hills – 15th May

Hi to all around the world. Today we had a “Stroke versus Par” event attended by 21 golfers and once again it was extremely hot and humid out there. The greens were “OK but slow” and the fairways “fairly good” with the rough “still punishing”. We had some rain over the weekend and with Monday being a public holiday not much mowing got done, in fact on green 3/12 it was like putting on a “thick pile carpet!”.

On the subject of the weekend weather it is sad to report that we lost one of the two large, iconic, trees that give cover over the meeting/scoring area in front of the clubhouse last Saturday during a particularly non-seasonal strong wind gust. The large mango tree however survived.

New and returning golfers: Niall Sheehan & Alan Ouellette.

Next Week’s Comp:     Stableford                   Presentation Bar: Honey Kos

Marina Hills – 8th May

Hi to all around the world. Today we had a Stableford event attended by 24 golfers. It was still very hot out there and Elvy did a roaring trade in water and beer! The greens were “slow and bumpy” and the fairways “OK” no doubt helped by a spot of rain on the previous Sunday. The rough however was “out of control”!

Before we get to the results the BSGC Committee would like to make a comment on score cards, and that is that when a player signs his card he is attesting to it being arithmetically correct. Of late we are getting quite a few cards that just do not add up correctly. The Committee points out it reserves the right to disqualify a player’s round if an incorrect card is submitted.

New and returning golfers: Mark Adair, Brenden Anderson & John Boucher.
