Beverly Place – 26th June.

Mabuhay Philippines, Hello World. For the 2nd week in a row we had to play our weekly tournament at Beverly Place due to Marina Hills being unplayable due to some holes being very wet and many fairways uncut. Anyway, 21 of us got in a game of “Stableford” using our Beverly Place handicaps. The course itself was not without a few problems with the greens being slow (especially on the front 9) and the fairways just average.

Following today’s match, the Beverly Place Handicaps have been updated and can be found on this website under the “Beverly Place Golf Competitions”  tab.

As we are now officially in the “Rainy Season” please note that a call will be made on Sundays if the tournament at Marina Hills is to be cancelled and an advisory will be posted as soon as possible on our website’s Home Page. In such circumstances an attempt will be made to hold an alternative tournament at Beverley Place. Check the website Home Page on Mondays!

New and returning golfers: Leo Hermosa (welcome to our group Leo)

As per last week there were no distinctions made today regarding “A” and “B” grades, all players competing as one.

WINNERS

1st        Ernie Standen             46 points

2nd       Dave Paliwoda            42 points OCB

3rd        Daniel Brias                42 points

Nearest the pins

8th        Warwick Sharpe

15th      Steve Arnold

Note: As announced at this week’s presentation there will be no more “Nearest The Pins” played for at Beverly Place due to the complication of having flights playing off different 9’s and not knowing if they are the last flight or not. It is easy at Marina Hills to pop back and pick up a NTP marker, not so on an 18 hole golf course!

NAGA:  Steve Tye    20 points

Other good scores: Col Clark 39, Warwick Sharpe 38, Terry Kerim 38, Mike Evarts 37 & Joe Giovenco 36

The Cliffs. For those going to La Union please note the Wednesday game is scheduled for 11:00am (format yet undecided) please ensure your travel plans get you to Coconut Grove in good time.

Pool Competition:    Leo Hermosa defeated Roger Simpson

Departing Golfers:   None that we know of

Next Week’s Comp:   July Monthly Medal        (providing Marina Hills playable)

Beverly Place – 19th June.

Hi to all around the world. As Marina Hills was unplayable, due to a waterlogged course after a week of rain, an alternative “Stableford” game was arranged at Beverly Place which was attended by 15 players.

It must be noted that Beverly Place was not in its usual pristine condition. Understandingly the fairways had not been cut for a while and the grass was quite long in places. As for the greens, well they had all been heavily sanded which caused some problems to putters however obviously not all as is reflected by some good scores. A major help to the good scores was the fact that a large number of the “silver” tee boxes that we intended to play off were under maintenance, and their tee-off spots moved forward to the white tee boxes which somewhat defeated the purpose of playing off them.

A repeat of last week’s note: As we are now officially in the “Rainy Season” please note that a call will be made on Sundays if the tournament at Marina Hills is to be cancelled and an advisory will be posted as soon as possible on our website’s Home Page. In such circumstances an attempt will be made to hold an alternative tournament at Beverley Place. Check the website on Mondays!

There were no distinctions made today regarding “A” and “B” grades, all players competed as one using their Marina Hills handicaps. As we progress through the rainy season a separate list of Beverly Place handicaps will be issued with the cutting/increasing based on the system that we use at the Thailand Tournaments. Look for these handicaps in the “Beverly Place Golf Competitions” page on the web site. The first of these has just been posted. Obviously there will be no update to Marina Hills handicaps made this week.

Marina Hills – 12th June.

Hi to all around the world on Philippines Independence Day. Well it started raining the previous Wednesday and hasn’t stopped since, especially over the weekend when a heck of a lot of rained was dumped. The “Rainy Season” has well and truly started albeit somewhat prematurely.

Despite the weather four hardy stalwarts headed north from Balibago to Mabalacat to play a round of golf lured by the promise of glorious sunshine and free beer/finger food from Marina Hills management!  Such hopes were soon dashed, the reality being a front nine of very light drizzle, what the Irish would call “a soft day” and a very pleasant, cool, rain free back nine and no free beer!  Incidentally the course was very wet in parts which gave some traction problems for our carts.

Check the website on Mondays!

“Eruptions”, the presentation bar, was graced with 14 of us enjoying a few beers and for a change a fully completed double-elimination pool competition (result below). Thanks must be given to Steve Turner who now has taken on the responsibility from Royal Johnny of organizing the pool.

There being less than 10 players the game that was played today is not classified as a tournament, a shame as considering the conditions there were some very respectable scores. No winners or nearest the pins thus noted for the record books. Obviously no handicaps will be updated.

Finally, those that want to go to The Cliffs, La Union (July 4th & 5th) and have not yet booked please contact the committee as soon as possible on balibagosocialgolfclub@gmail.com

Pool Competition:    Ben Ros defeated Glenn Wong

Departing Golfers:   Ben & Kriss Ros and Glenn Wong

Presentation Bar: Gentlemens

Marina Hills – 5th June

Mabuhay to all around the world. Here we are on the first Tuesday of the month playing the June Monthly Medal with 27 players. The greens were average, the fairways very green for this time of the year but generally lacking roll….and as for the rough, well “no comment!!”

New and returning golfers: Col Clark, Bob Taylor, Les Greentree, Rob Hazlett, John Boucher & Jonas Flanagan.  Nice to see you back Les (BSGC former secretary), if only for a few weeks.

Due to the overnight rain and the continuing heat, the weather was exceptionally humid until about 11:00am when it dried out. This caused some discomfort for many players.

At the last minute we had to switch the presentation bar to “Old Mates” due to the abrupt closure of Robbie Burns, fortunately everyone seemed to get the message.

Please see the note at the bottom of this page regarding our upcoming La Union trip.
