Newsletters – July 2018

Marina Hills – 31st July 2018

Hi to all around the Globe,

I have returned from my journey around the United States over the past 3 months I rode a motorcycle over 9,000 miles and visited 29 states, I saw some amazing country and meet some wonderful people.  I have some people to thank during my absence firstly Terry Chapman who took over writing the newsletter and attending to our website, Terry you did a wonderful job of picking up the tasks required to post our newsletter and to edit our website Im sure to all the readers it was great to have something refreshing and a different style communicating to our audience Thanks Terry really great job, I know you are now heading off for 5 weeks so I wish you safe travel and look forward to seeing you when you return. To all the other Committee members Warwick, John, Steve and Dave Walters and Dave Paliwoda thank you for the extra efforts, we cant have a successful club without having a group of dedicated people organising things in the background sometimes we need to acknowledge the work that they do so thank you.

Ok lets talk about golf and what happened yesterday during our weekly tournament, the rains have continued to fall on a regular basis and Marina Hills doesn’t cope with a lot of rain so it was off to Beverley Place the course looked beautiful even after a couple of days of heavy rain it was in very good condition however that greens were really hard and didnt hold the ball as much as I expected.  The weather held off for us and we were able to complete our round under dry conditions.

There were some good scores but nothing like last week when Col Clark blitz the field with 47 points, great game Col, hope your keeping well.

Special Messages

A special thank you to one of our new members Wayne Muras who kindly donated some prizes to the club we certainly appreciate your kind gesture thanks Wayne.

Terry Chapman will be absent for the next 5 weeks, Terry helps with transport in the mornings so could I please ask those players who visit regularly and know all the players could you approach some of the players and perhaps organise transport to golf that way it will leave Dave some space for any new visitors.

Transportation to Golf – If you need transport you should be contacting Dave Paliwoda (0949 894 1419) on Monday to let him know that you need transport this gives Dave an idea of how many players need a lift – if there are any other members that could help out during the next 5 weeks we would appreciate your help.

For those members who have Golf buddies (GPS) I have 3 new replacement batteries if you need one.

Thailand Trip – Its only 8 weeks away we currently have 22 players attending and we would like to boost the numbers up to around 28 so if you have any friends or your thinking of coming please let me know its a great experience and you get to play some amazing golf courses.

Finally I will be going out to Marina Hills on Sunday to inspect the course I will be posting an advisory on the website on Monday as to where we will be playing and what the event is, next Tuesday is a scheduled Monthly Medal however if Marina Hills is to wet then we will play a stableford event at Beverley Place.

Thank you for supporting our Club

Marina Hills – 24th July

Hello world and still a very wet Philippines! Yet again we could not play at Marina Hills, it was even wetter than last week, which resulted in 17 hard core BSGC golfers rocking down NLEX to Beverly Place, San Fernando. Considering how much rain had been dumped on BP during the last week the course was in surprisingly good shape. The fairways were a tad soft but the greens were good, and the sun came out in patches but the most important thing was the rain held off. We had very nice playing conditions the only irritations being the few groups of locals that inserted themselves between our pre-booked flights and really took their time!

You scribe has been asked to point out by the management to remind members that the weekly BSGC fee of P1,000 is based on P600 for the M.Hills green fee and P400 for the club which covers prizes + the presentation bar drinks. When we do not play at MH we only pay the P400 which entitles the payer to the drinks and pool games but more importantly to be recognized in the tournament. Non-payment of the P400 will not allow a submitted scorecard to be considered and of course no club drinks or pool games.

Getting back to the golf, as usual there were no distinctions made today regarding “A” and “B” grades, all players competed as one using their Beverly Place handicaps and, as can be seen, some very good scores were carded. An update of these handicaps can be found in the “Beverly Place Golf Competitions” web page.

Marina Hills – 17th July

Hello world and a very wet Philippines! For the first time in ages there was no golf played at all today by BSGC due to non-stop rain which not only waterlogged Marina Hills but made conditions very uncomfortable at Beverly Place. Actually “no golf” is not quite true as 4 of the 10 golfers that turned up at Beverly Place optimistically started a round only to call it quits on the 6th when the heavens opened!

The day was however not totally written off as a fair number of us turned up at Old Mates and had a good pool tournament and a very sociable afternoon despite being interrupted by the late arrival of Will O’Kempe, that noisy Irish-American BSGC member also known as “Crazy Boy”. Not having paid his P400 he was obliged to pay for his own drinks and wait until we had finished the pool before being allowed on the table. It was all in very good humour though.

In the Pool Competition Steve March defeated Dave Paliwoda

Finally, your scribe has posted some photographs of the recent visit to La Union on “The Cliffs Golf Trip” Web Page. Please note these pics are “as taken” waiting for Anthony to return and professionally edit them before moving them permanently to the “Gallery” section of this web site.

Next Weeks’ Competition: STABLEFORD

Presentation Bar: Honey Kos

Beverly Place – July 10,  2018

Hi to all around the world. As Marina Hills was unplayable, due to a waterlogged course after a week of rain, an alternative “Stableford” game was arranged at Beverly Place which was attended by 13 players. For those “fair weather” golfers that ducked out you missed a lovely day of golf in very favourable conditions. The greens were “good” as were the fairways, and as for the rough……what rough?

There were no distinctions made today regarding “A” and “B” grades, all players competed as one using their Beverly Place handicaps and, as can be seen, some very good scores were carded. An update of these handicaps can be found in the “Beverly Place Golf Competitions” web page.

Finally the current standings in the Club Championship have been posted on the “Club Championship 2018” web page…check it out and see where you stand!

Marina Hills – 3rd July

Mabuhay to all around the world. Here we are again on the first Tuesday of the month playing the July Monthly Medal back at Marina Hills after an enforced wet weather hiatus of two weeks at Beverly Place. The recent bad weather no doubt affecting our turnout which was only 19 players today. The greens were OK, the fairways playable….and the rough, unplayable!!

Incidentally, apologies for the late posting of this newsletter but your scribe was golfing and drinking up at “The Cliffs” La Union on Wednesday & Thursday (with 13 other BSGC members) and on getting home found there was no internet signal.  A match report on the La Union matches can be found appended to this newsletter.
