Davao 2020
21 of us got to Davao by various means (including bus) on Sun 16 with our partners and all attended the “kick-off” bash at 5:00pm at Lito’s Grill, after which everyone did their own thing promising to be at the meeting point on Monday morning at 6:30… after that, as expected, groups split off and went their own way. Most however were very tired and stayed at Lito’s for a meal and an early night!
During the week we all did our own thing, the social highlights being a well attended, great dinner on Wednesday night at a Dutch restaurant and the group dinner for 30 on Friday night at Jack’s Ridge a resort high in the hills with panoramic views of Davao.
All agreed it was a great trip (some talking about returning next year) and most importantly our ladies really enjoyed themselves.
THE GOLF
Game-4 Friday Feb 21 Rancho Palos Verdes Golf Club
Today we played a “stroke count putts” game at Rancho Palos Verdes, the course selected for the 4th and final game of our week long trip. We were 20 players all suitably refreshed from our day off. Having played this course on Tuesday a little bit of local knowledge came into play but for the majority we were at the mercy of our caddies, and most found the course quite challenging as no-one beat net par!

Game-3 Wednesday Feb 19 South Pacific Golf Club
We were 20 players today and traveled a mere 20 minutes from our condo to South Pacific Golf Club where we played a “Stableford” game. South Pacific was the flattest of the three courses we have played not unlike Beverly Place which is not surprising as it was built by the same designer. The course had wide fairways and lots of water crossings, so without local knowledge we were at the mercy of our caddies to advise us accordingly, with mixed levels of how it panned out. The weather was great with some cloud cover giving us a very pleasant day. The only down point was no beer in the tea-houses and a kitchen operating at a snail’s place in ordering lunch!
RESULTS
A-Grade (0-18)
Winner: Gary Wilborn 35
Runner-up: Bob Taylor 33
B-Grade (19-36)

After the lunch we voted on which course to play our 4th and final game and the one selected was Rancho Palos Verdes, so it is to there we will travel on Friday 21 with Thursday Feb 20 being our rest day.
Game-2 Tuesday Feb 18 Rancho Palos Verdes Golf Club
Today saw 20 of us play a game of Stroke/Count putts at Rancho Palos Verdes Golf Club. RPV is a very beautiful golf course but not easy with long undulating fairways, which resulted in many shots played on the sides of hills which proved somewhat difficult for those used to the flat Pampanga courses, as shown by the fact only 1 player broke net par. The results were:

Game-1 Monday Feb 17 Apo Golf Club
The 3 vans left on time and we were all at APO GC by 7:30 where we had a very enjoyable “Stableford” round on an empty golf course. The course was very long & tight with lots of water crossings and mature trees on both sides of most fairways. The weather was beautiful with a mild breeze, however many golfers struggled (no previous knowledge and the length) and only 2 broke par. The results were:
A-Grade (0-18)
Winner: Carey Winston 33 on-count-back from
